Another of Wanganui’s Iconic structures! The pedestrian tunnel was completed in 1916 with the Durie Hill Elevator Tower built in 1919. It is one of only two of its kind in the world. The tower had originally be painted cream and got lost in the landscape. I chose these colour because they complimented the ‘new’ signage and put the tower back on the landscape. I felt the staircase needed to be black to enhance the structure as it wound it’s way up the side of the tower. The orange (Resene Tia Maria) is more rich and deeper and sets of the green (Resene Wasabi) beautifully.
